The Eight Rules
Of Good
Local Government
Published By Robert K. Haelig Jr.
1.
There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
2.
Don’t hire employees you don’t need even if they are related to
somebody “special” or are part of somebody’s “team”.
3. Don't pay current expenses with borrowed money or reserve capital.
4. Don't hire consultants just because they dress nice and carry brief
cases.
5. Give
the public bad news when it occurs, not five or ten years later.
6.
Don't try to play Santa Claus to the voters. In the long run it
usually works out badly and eventually damages your credibility.
7. It
Is Generally Bad Public Policy To Throw The Baby Out With The Bath
Water.
8. Don't try to
oversimplify complicated issues. This is often the equivalent of
dissembling to the taxpayers. |
