Polifroni Kicks Butt At Township Committee Meeting

“You Lied And Sold Yourselves; You Were Deceitful Politicians Of The Worst Character”, He Tells Them

Dover Township: Ortley Beach civic leader Dan Polifroni, a charter member of the Board of Citizens Alert, was at the Township committee meeting on Tuesday, and he delivered a strong statement criticizing Republican involvement in the campaign to defeat the change of government.

Polifroni, an independent not affiliated with either political party, tore into the local Republican organization which poured considerable funding into the drive against the government change question, and helped violate important election laws.

Calling the anti-change leadership “deceitful liars”, Polifroni made specific reference to former Republican Mayor Robert Toscan, GOP Boss R. C. Clement and party Chairman, Joseph Coronato.

Clement Charged With Scamming The Community

Clement, a former chief of police, has been charged with scamming the community out of more than $12,000 extra every year by appropriating double health coverages with his wife Deborah from the Township and the Municipal Utilities Authority.

Toscan Retired With Inflated Pension

Toscan recently retired from the Sewer Authority with a pension inflated by excessive salary increases granted by political cronies.

Did Coronato Donate $7200 Without Membership Approval?

Coronato is an attorney who represents clients before the Planning Board, and heads up the Party Committee that “donated” $7200 to the government change opposition apparently without getting approval from the membership, who are elected by the voters in the primary election.

Mr. Polifroni’s statement to the Township Committee:

In my last statement on October 29, I directly addressed you Mayor Inteso, Michael Fiure and Virginia Haines with this quote: “After November 5, you three plus the rest of the Republican party will find out 10,000 signers of the petition are the smartest dumb people you will ever encounter.” In fact, they showed their smartness by over 1000 votes, and voted for needed change.

They were legitimately angry over the disrespect TO THEM shown by your lies and scare tactics insulting their common sense through your out-of-control mismanagement of the Dover Township Committee.

Over $100,000 Of Dirty Money

The Lotanos, Coronatos, Yorks, Clements and Toscans and the rest of the deceitful liars of the Republican Party, plus over $100,000 of dirty money, forgot it was only a handful of people that threw the tea in the harbor, against all odds, and created this grand country. It is in our genes.

We were only a handful of people, but we came together and said we want back our right to be listened to. We want free representation, not a monarchy. King George III was enough. When Dover has its change and the true cost of operation is known, it is our obligation to bring it forth to Dover citizens. All you brought forth were fliers of shame, deceit and lies.

We will leave the judgment up to the public. Personally, it is clear to me the Republican Party in Dover Township is the party of shame. The election is over and there is now a simple winner and loser. So be it.

The members of the Citizens Alert Committee could always like what we saw in the mirror.

We did not lie or cheat. We did not violate the state election law.

We were always forthright. We were always honorable.

We did not try to tap the PACs that were set up for some other purpose. We did not shake down huge contributions from out-of-town senator-lawyers employed as “bond counsels” by the township.

To the un-elected “Mayor” and to the appointed members of the committee and to your disgraceful and deceitful local Republican party: looking in a mirror, you cannot say you lost because of just a different philosophy of thought, because you know you lied and sold your souls. You were deceitful politicians of the worst character.  Shame on you all.                            (for 11/13/02)
