                  What A Phoney!!

Developer’s Attorney GOP Chairman Joe Coronato Decries Personal Attacks And Mudslinging After Conducting Republican Campaign Of Personal Attacks And Mudslinging

Coronato Also Comes Out Against “Lying” After His GOP Candidates Haines And Fiure Were Caught In Guinness Record Tirade Of Lies And Distortions

Developers Lawyer Says He Might Have Difficulty “Coming Up With Candidates” After Local GOP Abandoned And Betrayed 11,000 Registered Republicans On Overdevelopment, Open Space, Budget Issues

Dover Township: In 2001, developers’ engineer Frank Sadeghi was named chairman of a stacked GOP screening committee, which bypassed more viable candidates in favor of Carmine “Camera Smasher” Inteso, who has made the township committee a laughing stock since his election last year.

This year, the stacked Screening Committee was headed by developers’ lawyer Joseph Coronato, and the committee, once again, picked candidates with big bad baggage over  community-oriented hopefuls who might not take orders so dutifully from Coronato and GOP boss R. C. Clement.

Coronato was elected GOP Chairman for his efforts in successfully stacking the screening committee.

Virginia Haines

Lottery Queen Was Disciplined But Didn’t Win

The screening committee picked Virginia Haines, the former lottery director who helped herself to a huge $2 Million golden parachute state pension at the age of 55, and saw the world on more than 80 junket vacation trips with $103,000 of taxpayers money for herself and two other lottery queens. She lost.

Former Manville Councilman Barely Won

The committee also picked Michael Fiure, in town less than two years after escaping from a term on the Manville Council which he abandoned half way through to take a patronage job in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s office.

Michael Fiure

Haines and Fiure transacted a campaign which was distinguished for its furious mudslinging attacks on the opposition, and its overwhelming variety of outright lies about everything from overdevelopment to open space. Fiure barely won.

All other things being equal, the GOP should win handily in Dover Township, because registered Republicans outnumber Democrats 11,200 to 7800. But after having their collective intelligence insulted by Coronato and the rest, thousands of nominal Republicans simply bolted and voted for the Democrats.

Coronato Was A Key Player In The Mud And The Lies

Now, after playing a key role in $300,000 worth of mud and lies which led to a Democratic takeover in the township for the first time in twenty two years, Coronato says he “might have difficulty coming up with candidates” for the new eight member mayor and council after the GOP conducted a second $100,000 campaign of opposition to the change of government replete with a second quota of lies and distortions from Coronato and Clement and other development interests.

Some observers think that nobody with even a particle of self respect would go anywhere near the Republican Party in Dover Township without a complete fumigation and house cleaning after two years of posturing and disaster.      (for 11/15/02)
