Is The Badly Timed Out-Of-State -
Out-Of-Country “Vacation” The Last Straw?? Should John “Doctor” Furey Get

Furey
Is Designated As The Last Appointed Bogus “Mayor” Of Dover Township At A
Time When The Community Desperately Needs Some Leadership, So He Reportedly
Takes Off For Texas And South America, And Will Apparently Miss The Two Most
Important Meetings Of The Year For The Lame Duck Township Committee

Harry Truman
"If you can't stand the heat, get
out of the kitchen"
* * * *
Furey couldn't stand the heat, so he got
out of the kitchen - and headed for • • • South America??? |
Dover Township: John Furey has been a flop as a member of the
Democratic “loyal opposition”.
And if recent days are any indication, taxpayers can expect little
improvement from Furey as the township’s last bogus appointed “mayor” in the transition
to a new government.
Furey’s answer to urgent problems of overdevelopment, open space
acquisition, and traffic gridlock - not to mention a transition to the new
government approved by the people in the recent referendum - is to head
South on a winter vacation when he's supposed to be attending to the public
business.
AWOL For The Year’s Two Most Important Meetings
Furey will apparently be absent for what could easily be described as the
two most important meetings of the year.
The lame duck Democrats will take control of the township committee for
twelve months while the new mayor and council is being nominated and
elected.
Democrats Cannot Agree On Patronage
Appointments So Furey Leaves Town
But it became apparent at the last committee meeting that the Democrats
couldn’t agree on lucky campaign contributors to get township
patronage appointments at the new year (funded with taxpayers’ money, of
course).
If there ever was a time for a public official to attend the meetings he was
elected to attend, that time would be now.
There is nothing more important to the community than to do a good job
during this vital transition period but “Doctor” Furey is now apparently
AWOL for two meetings of the Township Committee.
Furey Again Turns Over Patronage Chores To Boss Moriarty
This is bad enough, but Furey has apparently again turned over complete
responsibility for the little party patronage matter to party boss “Doctor”
Jack Moriarty, who is now furiously wheeling and dealing trying to nurture
an embryonic patronage empire and preserve what is left of his flagging
credibility in the County Democratic party.
So (hopefully) when the “mayor” designate returns from South America, the
whole tawdry patronage business will be all straightened out and the tail
will wag the dog again, and “Doctor” Furey will get his marching orders from
Moriarty without the tiresome need to expend any intellectual energy on
trying to do the right thing for the community.
Furey Is Literally Asking For A
“Worst Public Officials”
Top Ten Nomination
“Doctor” Furey is literally asking for a citation as the next
OceanCountyPolitics•Com nominee for the “Top Ten List” of Worst
Public Officials in Ocean County.
He sold his political soul and sold the community out to the greedy and
treacherous Moriarty.
He looked the other way while his own election reports were tainted by
Moriarty and other political hacks.
He lied about the Dover Municipal Utilities Authority and, when he was
called on it and asked for documentation, he said ponderously over and over:
“I am relying on the report developed by Tom Rodgers and Rich Larsen”.
The "Larsen-Rodgers Report”, of course, is a figment of Furey’s imagination,
unless he is referring to a couple of confusing and contradictory press
releases which could not be even marginally called a “report” by anybody
with a brain.
Furey Rejected Only Open Space Acquisition
Plan That Could Have Worked
Furey rarely answers his mail and rejected, without even giving it a
hearing, the only open space plan that could have worked to counter
overdevelopment, because the plan was offered by a conservative Republican
who was not connected with the township committee.
When the township budget was voted on a few weeks ago, Furey never
criticized its world class 10% spending increase ($5 million) because, as he
acknowledged, he wanted to spend even more.
The local government is clearly falling apart, but the leader-designate has,
reportedly, left for South America.

Lots and lots more on Mayor-Designate Furey’s apparent near-neurotic desire
to be part of the OCPolitics Top Ten Worst Public Officials list as
time marches on. (for 12/16/02)
