Newly Minted Republi-Crat Administration, Led By Former Democrat Senator’s Son And Two Republican Posse Members, Begins Doling Out Patronage Cash At A Furious Pace, Squandering Huge Gobs Of Taxpayers’ Money

And Just To Let Local Democrats Know Where It’s At, Sen. Russo’s GOP Son-In-Law Robert Singer Invokes Senatorial Courtesy, Holding Up Democratic Chairman Potter’s Nomination As Gov. McGreevey’s Ocean County Nominee For NJ Sports And Exposition Authority

Dover Township: One of the first casualties in the blood feud currently running in the Democratic Party in Dover Township may be Democratic County Chairman and Teamster’s official Fred Potter.

Potter was nominated by Democratic Governor Jim McGreevey to be a commissioner on the NJ Sports and Exposition Authority, the agency that administers the facilities at the Meadowlands.

Singer Won’t Sign Off On Potter’s Nomination

30th District Republican Sen. Robert Singer of Lakewood, son-in-law of former Sen. John F. Russo, has held up Potter’s nomination by invoking Senatorial courtesy,

The ancient practice of Senatorial Courtesy allows a member of the state senate to blackball any nomination of any resident of his county without even giving a reason, even if the nominee does not live in his senate district. Potter lives in Point Pleasant, which is in the 10th, not the 30th District.

Singer said yesterday he has made no decision yet on Potter’s selection, saying he simply has not yet signed off on the nomination. The consent of all three Ocean county senators is required on each nomination.

Moriarty To Russos:
“You Can’t Come To The Table”

"Doctor"
John Moriarty

The Democrats’ blood feud erupted when party boss, “Doctor” Jack Moriarty, failed to genuflect often enough to suit Russo, who claimed Moriarty and Township Committeeman John Furey never allowed him and his son, John F. Russo Jr., to sit at the table where local Democrats carve up patronage appointments. Moriarty’s new website describes the Russos as “the most nefarious political family in Ocean County.”

Russo Jr. Appointed Mayor Over Protests

Assemblyman
James Holzapfel

GOP Chairman
George Gilmore

So the Russos teamed up with GOP bosses James Holzapfel and GOP County Chairman George Gilmore to make Russo Jr. the appointed  “Mayor”and carve up the town, as rejected Moriarty Democrats yelled epithets like “Stoolie”, “Traitor” and “Judas”.

All Four Principals Are
Patronage-Driven Lawyers

"Mayor" John
Russo Jr.

All four of the principals are patronage-driven lawyers, sending an eloquent message to the taxpayers who voted in November to change the local government to an elected mayor and council; namely that before the new government takes office in January of next year, the local treasury will be a tad lighter and a lot less buoyant.

Designation Of Russo Jr. As Appointed “Mayor”
Touches Off Explosion Of Criticism

The Republi-Crat coalition’s choice of Russo Jr. as appointed “Mayor” for 2003 touched off an explosion of criticism by Furey and new committeeman, Richard “The Accountant” Larsen, who questioned the “integrity” of the new “mayor” and suggested Democrat bosses Moriarty and Potter were better qualified to carve up the township government and administer its financial resources than Gilmore, Holzapfel and former Sen. Russo.

With A Straight Face, Russo Jr. Cites “Budget Technicality”
As Reason For Killing Full Time Law Department

As if there weren’t enough thumbs in the taxpayers’ eyes already, the Republi-Crat coalition proceeded to  introduce an ordinance on Tuesday to kill the township’s full time law department.

With a straight face, Russo Jr. cited a “budget technicality” as the reason. Thomas Mallon, appointed assistant attorney, will become township attorney at an hourly rate of $125 or $135 an hour.

Local Poverty Emergency Averted: Holzapfel
Will Continue To Get His $6667 Monthly Check

Holzapfel was reappointed “labor attorney” and will continue to receive his meager monthly check of $6667. Tuesday, David Corrigan was appointed as the second “labor attorney.” His basic responsibility will be to clean out the balance of the $160,000 appropriated for labor attorneys in the “tight”  township budget.

Seniors Receive Almost $17 A Month Extra,
As 1.42% Cost Of Living Increase Takes Effect

In other news, Dover Township seniors are receiving a 1.42% increase in their social security checks, an average monthly increase of almost $17, despite the political payoffs in the local government.
