Ocean Watcher Says The Fight For The “Hearts, Minds And, Of Course,
The Wallets” Of The Voters Of Dover Township Is A “Cabal Launched By Evil
And Gluttonous Wrongdoers”
“Alternating Glorification Of Self And
Vilification Of The Opposition” Is Little More “Than A River Of Muddy
Rhetoric” And “Mayordom Is Worth More (To Russo Jr.) Than A Two Year Old
Election Pledge To The Voters Of The Fiefdom
Ocean Watcher’s Commentary Follows: “As I follow the events of the ‘Battle
of Toms River’, I am struck by the level of absurdity embraced by both
sides.
“Letters to the editor flood our newspapers. Both sides resorted to letters
allegedly written by students or offspring.
“The result of this alternating glorification of self and vilification of
the opposition is little more than a river of muddy rhetoric.
“As I gaze out at the 'Ocean', I would like to recount the story, from its
formative stage for the fight for the hearts, minds, and of course, the
wallets of the voters in Dover Township.

The Phoney Aristocracy Of Wealth And
Birth
"There is • • • an
artificial aristocracy founded on wealth and birth, without either
virtue or talents • • The artificial aristocracy is a mischievous
ingredient in government, and provision should be made to prevent its
ascendancy."
--Thomas Jefferson to
John Adams, 1813. |
Noble Crusade Against Gluttonous Wrong Doers
“Two years ago Sir John Russo Jr. and Sir John Furey waged a noble crusade
against the forces of evil and the gluttonous wrong doers from the province
of Gop that controlled the future of their hamlet.
The people listened to their plea and voted for change.
“For certain there would be a new era from which the overspending and
wasteful trends of the past would be done away with and Dover would find a
"happily ever after" ending to its story.
“But alas, the ‘artificial aristocracy’ from the Province of Gop, accustomed
to feeding at the public trough, seized upon a plan to insure that no new
knights would be allowed to sample the bounty from the taxpayers.
“The Gop Province cabal gathered new strength by welcoming to their fold a
once bitter enemy, John F. Russo.
‘Mayordom’ Patronage Worth More Than Old Election Pledge
“They made their case by saying, ‘Certainly the gift of ‘Mayordom’ was worth
more than something as insignificant as a two year old election pledge’ to
the voters of their fiefdom.
Swords Honed By The Raging Fires Of Patronage
“With swords honed by the raging fires of patronage, the now ‘multi-party
artificial aristocrats’ set their aim on vanquishing foes from the army of
Moriarity, Furey, and the newly knighted, Larson.
The battleground was to be at the Dover Township Reorganization meeting.
“As the combatants prepared for the first gavel to fall, the true battle by
the power brokers and provincial bosses had already been fought, and all
that remained was the "theatre of the absurd" to be performed for an
unwitting audience.
“With cries of ‘'traitor’, ‘turncoat’, and even a biblical reference to
‘Judas’ flung through the hallowed halls of the Fiefdom of Dover, the new
"artificial aristocracy" donned their new bibs and armor and returned to the
public trough.
Alas the brave, but over matched army of Moriarity, Furey, and Larson, was
left with no place to quench its patronage-based thirst.
No Heroes - Only Gluttons And Villains
“The unique part of this fable is that there are no heroes - only gluttons
and villains. Villainy is a mantle that can be worn by both sides. Had the
promised change truly been in the hearts and motives of the losing army,
there would have been no defection and desertion from the "platform for
change" voted for two years ago.
Possible Happy Ending: Hope Is On The Way In
November’s Government Change Election
“But, take courage reader. You see there can be a "happily ever after"
ending to this tale. It can take place this coming November on a day set
aside for the people • • • Election Day.
“Perhaps Sir Tom Jefferson said it best when he reminded the Vermont
Legislature, "A representative government, responsible at short intervals of
election... produces the greatest sum of happiness to mankind. -
