Dover Township - There was not a single public official elected in
the past fifteen years who was not deeply involved, directly or indirectly,
in the massive failure to adequately confront the worsening overdevelopment
and traffic gridlock that threatens the community's quality of life.
Every Republican official, without exception, was part of a conspiracy to
promote drastic overdevelopment, a searing dereliction that produced huge
profits for developers and their lawyers, and promises of payoffs for their
political sponsors.
Republicans And Democrats Did It - No Exceptions
By their refusal even to acknowledge the galloping extent of overdevelopment
and traffic disasters, and to consider real responses even when specific and
meaningful plans were put under their noses on the table in front of them,
two Democrats elected in 2000 became an integral part of the problem - as
opposed to part of the solution.
The problems worsened in 2001 and 2002 as the developers' planning board
refused to look beyond the next approval, and a plan for a big Home Depot
store and JAMM Realty approvals, enabled by years of posturing by officials
sucking up to rich property owners instead of doing their duty for the
taxpayers, presented the twin realities of exponentially higher prices to
publicly acquire the properties, or exponentially more overcrowding and
traffic gridlock if the applications went forward.
JAMM And Home Depot Properties Could Have Been Acquired For Total Of $1.2
Million Only Three Years Ago
Both properties were urged as part of a comprehensive open space acquisition
plan nearly three years ago, and both could have been purchased for a total
price of less than $1.2 million, according to the owners of the tracts.
Now, after three years of weasel words and other species of double talk and
shear posture nonsense from elected officials and planning board
functionaries, the price for the Home Depot piece is $2.4 million, and the
price for the JAMM Realty property will be at least $4 million - in the
unlikely event it ever finds its way back on the market.
Prices for these Barnegat Bay estuary properties have escalated by 400%
because of the grotesque incompetence and double dealing of the now lame
duck township committee and the local planning board - factors which were
central in the decision by the voters last November to try their luck with a
new form of government in the 2003 election.
Patronage Greed And Personal Agendas Dominated The Political Environment
It became apparent even before the ink was dry on the 2000 election returns
that the single ruling characteristic among public officials in Dover
Township was patronage greed and personal agendas, financial and otherwise,
and most definitely NOT a single-minded determination to extract the
community from its major problems.
When two John Russos teamed up with the GOP to form a patronage-based lame
duck majority axis on January 2nd, it was not for the altruism of a
community agenda but, as everybody but the most incredibly naive knew
perfectly well, was all about which attorneys and other professionals get to
share in the excessive political distribution of taxpayers money.

Now, reports persist that life-long Democrat Russos, both John Jr. and John
Sr., will make the seditionist deal of January 2nd manifest, and become
official Republicans so they don't have to worry about the little detail of
running a Democratic primary election against candidates fielded by local
Democratic boss, Dr. Jack Moriarty (left), whose main response to the
Russo treachery is the construction of a web site

Discussions with
Republican Boss R. C. Clement (left), so the stories go, center on
how to whack up patronage with the Russos, and how to sell Russo Jr. as a
mayoral candidate to 11,000 GOP voters sick and tired of being lied to and
taken for granted by a local Republican Club dominated by the political and
development interests (Clement, Joseph Coronato etc.)who unsuccessfully lied
their way through last year's government change referendum. In case anybody
