Council Candidates See "No Compelling Reason" To Dissolve DMUA
Dover Township:
Paul Brush, independent candidate for
mayor of Dover Township, and his YES Team of candidates for council
have announced that they see no compelling reason to dissolve the
Dover Township Municipal Utilities Authority. Brush and the council
candidates met with John Broome, Executive Director of the DMUA, last
week for a tour of the facility but reserved a decision pending
receipt of financial data from Broome.
Reviewed DMUA Financial Data
Brush said, “We asked Mr. Broome for
financial data which we promptly received and reviewed. We believe
the DMUA is in sound financial condition and is well positioned to
replace aging sewer lines throughout the township."
DMUA Operation Runs "Very
Efficiently"
"With mass development leveling off in
town, the authority should be able to meets its financial needs and
capital improvement requirements well into the future. The operation
appears to run very efficiently and we see no compelling reason why it
should not remain independent of the township.", Brush said.
There are 58,000 ratepayers in town who
have not had their rates increased in 20 years. This is an enviable
record for any government agency", he noted

Rejects Furey-Larsen Dissolution
Proposal As "Abhorrent To The Principles Of Sound Financial
Management"
“The concept that the township should in
effect raid the surplus or financial stability of one agency to
stabilize the finances of another is simply abhorrent to the
principles of sound financial management.
"Sounds Like Trenton And Washington"
It sounds more like what they do
in Trenton and Washington, and exactly the reason those governments
are in trouble”, said Brush, himself a professional accountant and
CPA.
Dover Township Committee members John
Furey and Richard Larsen, both Democrats, have recommended the DMUA be
liquidated and its assets turned over to the Township to "reduce
taxes."
