Attorney General
Peter C. Harvey

Bad Penny Councilman Dibella Offers Nothing To Support His Charges Of Corruption, Conflicts Of Interest, Cover-ups, Play For Pay Games, Nepotism, Inept Leadership Etc., Etc., As Morris Administration Is Glad To Be Rid Of Him (Maybe)

Beachwood GOP On Top Of Their Game; They Put Together Big Write-In Vote As Ronald Roma Beats DiBella In Council Primary

Afraid The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Would Laugh At Him, DiBella Sends His Charges To Trenton, But Attorney General Harvey Is Attending Atlantic City Boxing Match

Beachwood: You can’t keep track of the antics of Councilman Robert DiBella without a score card.

A recount for the Democratic Mayoral nomination will be held July 3rd between DiBella and former Councilman Thomas Schiffermiller because of a write-in tie vote in the June 3rd primary election.

Democrat DiBella Became A Republican Last Year

Just to review the situation: DiBella, a former Democrat who became a Republican last year, was a candidate for re-election to the borough council on the Republican ballot.

A week before the election, DiBella sent a letter to Democratic voters, asking them to write him in for mayor on the Democratic ticket.

Roma Wins GOP Primary, Beating DiBella With Write-In Votes

Republicans, feeling betrayed, organized a write-in campaign for DiBella’s council seat, and persuaded 275 GOP primary voters to write in Ronald  Roma, who beat DeBella by a wide margin with the write in votes.

DiBella also presented a petition naming him an independent candidate for Mayor, a petition which had the requisite number of signatures, so the petition was accepted by the County Clerk’s office.

DiBella and Schiffermiller each received 35 Democratic write in votes, so the recount will determine whether DiBella runs as an Independent or as a Democrat.

DiBella Charges Corruption, Etc, Etc,
But Doesn’t Present Evidence

In defending his latest switch, DiBella said the local Republican administration is “corrupt”, a charge which he embellished with allegations of “conflicts-of-interest”, compounded with “cover-ups”, complicated by “play for play games and nepotism”, topped off with “inept leadership”.

The last charge, “inept leadership”, drew some snickers from political observers in Beachwood, because until a few weeks ago, DiBella, as a “Republican” Councilman was part of that “leadership”, and nobody had heard a peep out of him since he was welcomed into the GOP leadership almost a year ago.

Attorney General Harvey Too Busy Attending AC Boxing
Match To Comment On DiBella’s Charges

Afraid the Ocean County Prosecutor’s office might laugh at him, DiBella is reported to have sent his charges after the primary election to state Attorney General Peter C. Harvey, who was attending a $350 per ticket boxing match at one of the Atlantic City casinos, and couldn’t be reached for comment.

Beachwood
Mayor Hal Morris

Assuming the envelope will eventually be opened, we’ll bring you Attorney General Harvey’s reaction to the DiBella charges, as soon as Harvey is finished defending himself against charges the state attorney general shouldn’t be accepting free $350 Atlantic City boxing match tickets, a subject upon which DiBella has not yet commented.

DiBella Couldn’t Back Up His Charges Because Of
A “Prior Business Commitment”

DiBella, asked to back up his charges with facts and documents by GOP Mayor Hal Morris, simply blew off the meeting of the Mayor and Council, saying he had a “prior business commitment.

Most observers agree that unless DiBella comes up with some persuasive evidence, including actual facts, to back up what appear to be pretty wild charges, he may have difficulty getting any more than a very limited token vote in the November general election, a contingency that would guarantee the GOP ticket, which includes Mayor Hal Morris, a good shot at a substantial victory.    7/2/03
