Jason Varano |
Letter To The Editor
Berkeley Mayor
Jason Varano, Re-Elected Recently By The Largest 2003 Margin Of
Any Ocean County Local Official, Says "We Do Our Best To Bring
Cost-effective And Productive Local Government Services To Every
Individual And Every Community With Impartiality"
Bayville:
Mayor Jason J. Varano, re-elected last November by one of the
largest margins in the history of Berkeley Township, has submitted the
following letter-to-the-editor:
The responsibility of the governing body of every community is to be
fiscally responsible in budgeting for the smooth operation of the
municipality.
Berkeley Township is a community of 40,000-plus people residing in a
42-square mile area. In that area are more than 400 miles of roadway,
23,00 homes, 10 parks and many miles of waterfront.
Township Consists Of Several Different Communities
The township consists of several different communities that include
South Seaside Park, Pelican Island, Manitou Park, Holiday City and
Bayville. Within each community there are different sections.
For instance, in Holiday City you have nine different senior
communities (Holiday City at Berkeley, Holiday City Carefree, Holiday
City Heights, Holiday City South, Holiday City West, Silver Ridge Park
East, Silver Ridge Park North, Silver Ridge Park West and Silver Park
Westerly), totaling 12,500 homes that house 25,000 people.
Bayville has many different areas, such as Pinewald, Bel Air, Berkeley
Shores, Sylvan Lakes, Berkeley Villages, Hidden Meadows and Sandpiper
Beach, to name a few, as well as one senior community - Sonata Bay.
"Our Governing Body Serves Diverse Communities"
The governing body is charged with taking care of the needs of these
diverse communities on what we would hope is equal footing.
Maintaining our roads, parks and waterfronts, collecting our trash,
recycling and bulk, and plowing and salting our roads are just a few
of the services for which the township is responsible.
All municipal, state and federal governments are facing difficult
budgetary times. Our municipality is no exception.
Strong Effort To Be Fiscally Responsible
In an effort to continue to be fiscally responsible, some of the
decisions that are made might not always be favorable to every
community; however, you may rest assured that all decisions are made
with the welfare of the entire township in mind.
No one community is ever left out of our thinking. We do our best to
be sure that our limited resources are used to help satisfy the needs
and wants of every individual and every community in the township with
impartiality.
Jason Varano, Mayor-Berkeley Township
