Bill Heyer Letter - 2/19/04
Ocean County Politics DOT Commentator Bill Heyer Notes Cost Of Dover
Administration Has Doubled; Says "Perhaps Mayor Brush Will Demand A
Hummer, And His Own Chauffeur To Drive It"
Dear Editor:
Under the old form of government, here,
in Dover Township, we had one person holding two jobs: Administrator
and township clerk.
That person was Barbara Iasillo.
On January 1st, when the mayor-council
form of government took over, those two jobs were split up between two
people: Fred Ebenau became the new administrator (at a yearly salary
of $100,000), and Barbara Iasillo was reduced to holding one job -
township clerk (at what yearly salary?)
Did she take a pay cut, since her duties
and responsibilities were cut in half?
Brush Wants A
"Confidential" Secretary
Now, Mayor Brush wants a "confidential"
secretary; at a yearly salary of $40,000.
Am I the only one concerned about what
this new form of government is costing the taxpayers?
I shudder to think what is going to come
next.
Will Brush Get A Hummer
From The Taxpayers?
Perhaps Mayor Brush will demand a
Hummer.?
And his own chauffeur to drive it. Then
the seven Republicans on the council will demand a Lexus.
With their own drivers, of course.
Where's it all going to end?
I notice that it still requires a good
deal of patience (and perseverance) to negotiate any one of the
roads and highways that intersect thru Dover. But I guess THAT'S not
a priority.
Sincerely,
Bill Heyer

Editor's Note: When Ebeneau
was hired as the new administrator, former Clerk-Administrator Barbara
Iasillo was retained as Clerk, and given the additional title of
Assistant Administrator. Her salary for the two jobs is in the
$115,000 range. Brush's plan to hire a $54,000 "confidential aide"
(including benefits) on top of all of this represents an increase for
"administration" of about 150% before the MattiaBrush administration
is even 100 days old. (Brush promised to "cut millions of dollars in
spending by the township", a promise that has already been shattered
and trashed by the increase in administration and the huge increase in
spending for hiring politically-connected attorneys and other
"professionals" the township doesn't need and can't afford.
