McGreevey |
New Jersey Statewide:
Jim McGreevey, with poll numbers lower than
Howard Dean (who dropped out soon after McGreevey and former
presidential candidate Al Gore endorsed him) is already hoping for a
low turnout in the
2005
gubernatorial election.
The only thing that can save McGreevey's job
is a repeat of the kind of intramural GOP cannibalism that occurred in
2001.
Come to think of it, that’s why Bret Schundler isn’t governor,
because of losers like Donnie DiFrancesco and Christie Whitman, who
can’t stand anybody who is more talented (and more forthright) than
they are. Stay tuned.

Planning Board
Chair Mattia |

Council
President McGuckin |
Dover Township: No honor among elected officials? Mayor Paul Brush,
having already doubled basic administrative costs, wanted to appoint a
relative of planning board chairman Sal Mattia as $41,000
“confidential” aide to himself; and the Republican council, having already
cooperated with Brush to double the cost of “legal” services, "agreed" to hire another half
dozen pay-for-play attorneys (most of them are Republicans who will send in hourly bills at a $30,000
part-time clip).
Seems
the governing body had plenty of taxpayers money for the no-bid lawyers, who
were hired without a murmur from Brush, but the council voted like good
Republicans to
delay the Mattia appointment, oozing with nepotism and self interest, to
look at the budget and “check finances.”
Brush demurred, muttering that he had "a
deal" with the council to approve the appointment and keep his mouth
shut about the lawyers. Stay tuned.

Dolobowski |
Lakewood Township: Thousands of Lakewood residents, including many seniors,
cannot afford to pay for expensive health insurance insurance coverage.
But politicians and their cronies get
the health insurance for free, and some of them are
double dippers who get more than one policy, all paid for through the
nose by the same taxpayers who can’t afford coverage in the first
place.
The Royal Screwing continues. Stay tuned.

Bellu |
Toms River: Any truth to the rumor that GOP leader Rick Clement, 82,
will grudgingly turn the Republican Club presidency over to former Planning
Board
chairman and 2003 GOP campaign manager Juan Carlos Bellu?
The story circulating
in town also includes a
prediction that Clement, distributor of GOP patronage and designator
of GOP candidates, will try to hang on to his power by creating a
new imperial title of “Organization CEO”, and naming himself to the
new title so he can
still be “Boss Clement” while Bellu is a figurehead president?
Will this leave Bellu with the presidential title and the status of a
glorified errand boy for Clement?
And, more importantly,
where do the 11,300
malleable, gullible, and placid, slow-to-anger rank-and-file registered
Dover Republicans fit in to all of this?
Nowhere? Or, Somewhere? Stay tuned.
