Michael Felicetta Says Moriarty's Letter Re: Furey's "Sacrifice" Is
"Comic Relief" From Defrocked Democrat Boss; Charges Conspiracy, Back
Room Deals, Made Losers Of Voters Who Wanted Change
To The Editor:
I read with hilarity the comic relief espoused by defrocked former
Dover Township Democratic leader Jack Moriarty in his letter lauding
the "courageous, selfless, community-service" gesture of former
Committeeman Furey's dropping out of the November mayoral race.
Self-Aggrandizing Hogwash
What hogwash and self-aggrandizing political porridge. Furey was the
least selfless member of the Township Committee to ever hold a seat in
the 25 years I have been a Dover resident.
Furey
Dropped Out Because He
Couldn't Win
He dropped out of the race
because he had absolutely no chance of winning the election and was
self-serving and vindictive to the end.
There was no way in hell he
was going to let John Russo best him for mayor - period. His departure
and Brush's "return to Democratic fold" consolidation was the only
mechanism to overcome the other party.
Conspiracy Hung Like The Berlin Wall
He gallantly and cavalierly stepped aside for Paul Brush because the
veil of the Democratic conspiracy that attempted to implicate Brush
hung like the Berlin wall over his head and he could only hope his
demise would prevent the Republican Party from sweeping the election
and invalidating his inadequacies as a candidate and leader.
Furey And Moriarty Crawled Back Under The Same Rock?
It is
amusing how he abdicated his reign to Brush, a man he and Moriarty
attempted to force from the campaign with erroneous, scathing, albeit
untrue but damaging information. Furey and Moriarty were resigned to
crawl back under a rock that was overturned by an honest friend of
Brush's with a conscience - a rarity in party politics.
Tammany Hall Demagoguery?
The wheel of
honesty spun full circle and both harbingers of nasty party politics and
back-room deals wreaking of Tammany Hall demagoguery were, hopefully,
banished from the political scene forever, but they might surface
again when things get ugly again. But shake that tree and all that
eventually falls out is politicians by any other name.
Politicians Are
Politicians Are Politicians.
All those political contributors are
getting apiece of the pie and feathering their nests from the spoils,
compliments our newly elected mayor who, coincidentally, ran on a
campaign platform admonishing the party in power with the slogan of
bringing a "fresh breath of air" to the new government we demanded in
the sweeping reform of the Dover Township governing body.
Brush Brushed Off His Own
Independent Team
How many
members of Brush's losing independent slate whose platform he
championed received government appointments vs. members of Sal Mattia's Democratic Party or his moneyed contributors? Disturbing
enough that he abandoned his party slate and platform to gain the nod
for the mayoralty job he coveted, but there must have been some of his
running mates whose assets and abilities could be beneficial to offer
the new government.
Citizen Efforts For Change "Ignored And Denigrated" By Brush
Many voters worked tirelessly and genuinely for the government change
and the Independent slate to assure "everyman" inclusion in the Dover
governing body. Their - efforts were ignored and denigrated and
received little benefit from what libertarian seeds they had sown with
good intentions and idealistic fervor.
They precipitated a new
mayor-and-council form of government with patriotic idealism, but we
have business as usual with "pay to play" dominating the post-election
scene, defeating the core of their efforts.
Brush Sold Out Like The Hacks He Promised To Get Rid Of
Political hacks who
espouse change already are contrary to the political platform by using
"old boy" job handouts as payouts for their financial support. Brush
can spew any political spin he wishes, but he sold out like the
politicians and good old boys he promised to supplant.
Losers Were The "Idealistic Voters"
The only
losers in the election aftermath were the idealistic voters who
actually believed and honestly thought Dover government could be "of
the people, by the people and for the people."
Rhetoric Of The Next Election?
Politics 101 arrogantly
nudged that aside and the interests of the populace are relegated to
the rhetoric of the next election and the next group of gullible
listeners who are increasingly becoming harder to find.
Oops, pardon
my rose-colored glasses.
They always get in the way of reality .
