Citizens Alert Committee Recognized For "Civic Duty And Commitment To
Community Service" In Passing Historic Change Of Government In Dover
DiGiovanni, Versacio, Luthman, Polifroni Among Award Recipients
Toms River: Twenty-one
township residents were recognized Tuesday evening for their service to the
community in petitioning for the change of government in Dover
Township.

The Citizens Alert organization, headed by Angelo DiGiovanni, Harold
Eccles, Ted Versacio and Doris Regal, was recognized for spearheading
a petition drive, and then working for passage of a 2002 referendum to
make the change from a five member township committee to the new seven
member township council (four from wards) and a separately elected
mayor.

In addition to DiGiovanni, Eccles, Versacio and Mrs. Regal, award
certificates were also presented to former Democratic County Chairman
Al Santoro, Ortley Beach Civic Leader Dan Polifroni, former Mayor John
Russo Jr., educator Nels Luthman and Dover Municipal Utilities
Authority Chairman Robert K. Haelig Jr., all of whom had leadership
roles in the successful change of government drive.
Also receiving certificates for their leadership and hard work on
behalf of the Citizens Alert effort were David Cottrell, Frances
Koumves, Anna Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Jack Volz, Margaret DiGiovani,
Louis Koumves, Joseph Lewis, Carol Salzberg, Albert Settembrino,
William Heyer and Frank Kenny III.

McGuckin Presents Certificates
The certificates, printed in black ink on rich ivory parchment stock
suitable for framing, were presented by Council President Gregory
McGuckin, who noted that he and most of the new council "wouldn't even
be here if it were not for the efforts of the Citizens Alert
leadership and the many citizens who worked on behalf of the change of
