GOP Meets Friday To Re-Coronate Clement - Part III

Whether He's Handing Taxpayers' Money To Political Cronies Or Grabbing Some Himself, Or Double Dipping On Costly Health Benefits, Former Police Chief (Now GOP Boss) Rick Clement Is In His Element, Tainting The Political Process In Toms River

Boss Clement

Members Of Exclusive GOP "Team" Get Some Of The Crumbs If They Bow And Scrape And Genuflect At The Proper Time

The Only Folks Who DON'T Get Benefits Are 11,250 Of 11,300 Rank & File Dover Township Republicans Who Just Get The Tax Bills & The Embarrassment

Toms River: Somebody has made some more little changes to the By-Laws amendments that will be voted 7pm Friday (3/19) at the Old Time Tavern so the Republican Club can re-coronate Pres. Richard C. Clement in the newly-created office of "Chairman Of The Board."

Implemented By Acclamation?

The changes will be implemented by acclamation probably, because there apparently isn't a single individual remaining in the Republican Club who is capable of thinking for himself (or herself).

Clement won't let anybody join who won't take an a priori loyalty oath to swear allegiance to the club leadership no matter how preposterous their policies are, or how ludicrous the waste of taxpayers money becomes as a result of the greed of specially anointed members.

Club President Castrated In Advance?

The new By-laws changes effectively castrate the new Club president in advance by giving Clement, who will become Chairman of the Board through the process of cosmic inevitability, effective power to appoint members of all the committees that count in the power structure of the Republican pecking order.

One part of the amendment process has been tidied up to adjust Clement's compulsive tendency to misinform the club members even when he doesn't have to.

New Cover Letter Leaves Out Dopey Claim That GOP Club Changes Are Needed To Conform With Change Of Government

The cover letter, sent out this time by Clement supplicant "Sr. Vice President" Thomas J. Hourigan, charitably doesn't repeat the ridiculous assertion, made by Clement in the first cover letter, that the By-laws changes were being made, not as a result of a desire for more power, but to conform to the "recent form of government change" in Dover Township. Right!

Most Rights Reserved For New Board Chairman - Guess Who?

One of the proposed changes takes away the right of the club president to call trustees meetings, a right that will now be reserved to the newly minted "Chairman Of The Board." (Guess Who?)

Clement Gets The Important Appointments

It is clear from the proposed changes that Clement doesn't trust anybody, even if he hand picks the next club president who, according to the new By-Laws, "shall appoint all standing committees and their respective chairperson, "except the Finance Committee, By-Laws Committee, Screening Committee and Nominations Committee."

New President Gets Entertainment Committee

The Refreshments Committee, Latrine Committee, Military Drill Committee, the Monthly Notices Committee, Entertainment Committee  and the Bad Publicity Committee will still be under the control of the new President, presumably (at least through last week) former Planning Board Chairman Juan C. Bellu.

Public Circumvented Once Again

Everything of any significance will continue to run through Clement, Municipal Chairman Joseph Coronato, a Clement yes-man who gets $46,000 a year as "public defender" for the Township and still represents clients before the township Planning Board, and a small group of patronage beneficiaries who genuflect on cue and can be counted on to send in vouchers on time.

Paranoia Endemic?

Clement is so paranoid that "alternate" members are now prescribed for the nominating committee for club officers, in case it turns out that he can't trust even the people he now trusts the most.

Brings to mind the classic remark of one of the characters in the movie, Atlantic City: "I only do business with the people I do business with."

11,250 Of 11,300 Rank-And-File Republicans Up
The Creek Without An Identifiable Paddle

The big losers in all of this, no matter how the big By-Laws charade works out, are the vast majority of the rank-and-file Republicans in Dover Township, many of whom absolutely refuse to vote Republican on the local level because of the bad policies of the local GOP.

Sewer Increase And Over-Development
Tax Increases All But Inevitable

And it will probably get worse before it gets better, because the costly, destructive and damaging policies pushed for years by Clement and his Republican Club associates have made a sewer rate increase and a big over-development tax increase for both the school system and the township government all but inevitable.
