Schiff Editorial: Part II
Is Dover's Open Space Plan "Insanity?" Have officials "foundered,
fused & fumed about what to acquire and how much to spend?" Will
Brush's Vetos Make Things Worse • • Or Better? Is There A Real
Program?

Part II Of The Schiff Open Space Editorial Follows:
Dear Editor,
Nobody has a coherent plan for the acquisition
of open space in Dover Township.
The current group of elected officials talks a good game, but every plan (including
two cost-effective plans detailed and outlined by former Assemblyman
Robert K. Haelig Jr. in 2000 and 2002) has been killed by the
Republican GreedClub leadership or the two-buffoon Democrat minority
on the "old" township committee.
Haelig Having Second Thoughts?
|

Robert K.
Haelig Jr. |
The effort of the new government to pick up the pieces has been a
classic Alphonse and Gaston act of ineptitude, bad faith and buck
passing.
And now even Haelig is having second thoughts about the efficacy of
the botched programs he recommended in good faith - because the prices
that were available when he recommended the programs have escalated
exponentially in the wake of bungling, indecision and bureaucratic
delays.
The
Tragedy
Of Broken Campaign Promises
It is apparently no surprise to anyone
that the mayor has already broken every campaign promise he made prior
to his election.
Mayor And Council Have Not Kept Their Commitments
|

Fiure & GOP Council: Broken
Campaign Promises? |
And the Republican council members have already broken every one of the
major campaign promises they made when they were candidates.
Both branches of the local government are equal in this respect.
Lots Of Recreation For
Patronage Recipients;
None For The Public And Their Children
Under the Recreation Commission patronage and bonding proposal,
brainchild of the Seven Dwarfs, t here
was plenty of “recreation” for the beneficiaries of the
patronage stench, but not a whole lot for the taxpayers of our
community and their children.
Public Made The Council
Look Stupid
Fortunately, the public showed up to
make the council look as stupid as the idea itself. So it was shot
down (the idea, not the council).
Township Council Has
Not Acted Competently
So far, the township council has not
acted competently. I have seen the council president get red in the
face when the latest political payoff is criticized by a citizen who
dares to point out that the new “plan” to plunder the taxpayers has
the same basic features as the old one: it is designed to further
disenfranchise the very people the council and the mayor were elected
to serve.
Ward Council Members
Are Empty Suits
The ward council members are all empty
suits; they behave like morally and spiritually corrupt political
simpletons.
They pat themselves on the back every
chance they get, and contribute absolutely nothing. They keep us in
the stone age with the political bosses and grandiose palabra, leaving
all to ask: where’s the beef?
Where's The Beef: How
About A Recall election In 2005
No wonder the “RECALL” cry is heard in
the land, not only for the hesitant and pliant first elected mayor, but for the do-nothing
first elected township council members at-large as well.
Failures Lead To Tax
Increases - What About Worthless B.I.D?
The failures will lead to tax increases
this year or next.
And, speaking of taxes, what happened to
the mayor’s promise to get rid of the wasteful and worthless business
“improvement” district tax increase and costly bureaucratic bungling?
The Business
"Improvement" District Debacle:
Another Year Of Unrequited Failure?

B.I.D.
Interim

|

B.I.D. Chairman Capone
|
The ‘improvement district” debacle will
result in another year of unrequited failure and more decay and
desolation in the downtown area - and in the failed credibility of the
new government by refusing to salvage another expensive political
shipwreck.
Observer Editorial?
Only Flaw Is Fawning Flattery Of Bartlett
The only major flaw in the Observer
editorial is its fawning flattery of the county open space plan which,
in its own bragging and self-aggrandizing way, is as
counter-productive and wasteful as the one in Dover Township.
Don't Erect Freeholder
Statue Just Yet
T he
county obtained the appraisals for the Wiener Homes property that was
acquired two years ago from a partnership in which former Republican
Senator William Hiering was one of two principals.
Big Price - Big
Influence - Big Ego
The price (about $4 million is my
recollection) was roughly triple what anybody thought the property was
worth.
But the esteemed and venerated Hiering,
who is the Chairman of the Ocean County College Board of Trustees, is
the ultimate influence shark in the Republican GreedClubs.
Brobdingnagian
Price Prevailed
The
brobdingnagian price prevailed as a worshipful Board of Freeholders
fell all over themselves to hand it over in the form of taxpayers
money (legal tender).
Size Of Egos Is
Brobdingnagian, Too
|

Sen. Hiering Contemplating The
Bust Of Sen. Hiering |
Just to monitor the size of the egos
involved here, our editorial includes a respectful and benign photograph of a
bronze bust of Senator Hiering contemplating the bust of Senator
Hiering in the Great Hall of the new
Science Building at the County College.
Hiering Is First Big Bust Since
Constantine The First In 312
|

A Bust Of His Excellency, Emperor Constantine The First, Of
Suburban Rome |
The big Heiring bust
was commissioned a couple of years ago when the Science Building
was dedicated in the esteemed and venerated name of
the distinguished former State Senator, the first time a bronze bust was dedicated
in this manner (during the lifetime of the prince) since the
deification of His Excellency, Emperor of Rome, Constantine the First,
in 312 AD.
Hiering Is At
County College - Location
Of The $4 Million Is Not Known
Senator Hiering is still holding forth at the county college.
The status and current location of the $4 million that formerly
belonged to the taxpayers of Dover Township and Ocean County is not
known.
What About More Open
Space? Who Will Get The Money?
|

Freeholder John Bartlett |
It will become abundantly clear very soon
once again in
connection with another possible Dover Township open space
acquisition, that the giveaway of truckloads of public funds to political cronies
and worthy patronage recipients is
not limited to the local level.
Not Yet For Bartlett Bust?
So d on’t
erect the statue (or bust) of Freeholder Bartlett just yet.
There will be much more on these issues from OCP in the fullness of
time - Your attention is appreciated.
