Democratic Party Chairman Fred Potter has sent a letter to 300
members of the Ocean County Democratic Committee tendering his
resignation and endorsing Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union
Chief Wyatt Earp as his replacement.
Earp is kind of a two-fer because his elevation to the
chairmanship which Potter disgraced so thoroughly would
guarantee the return of "Doctor" Jack Moriarty, the former
Dover Township Democratic Boss and hired-gun publicist who
tried to extort Dover Mayor Paul Brush when Brush was the
independent mayoral candidate in July of 2003.
Moriarty Had To Resign After Extortion Scandal
Moriarty had to resign his party offices, and the extortion
charges were referred to Attorney General Peter "see no evil"
Harvey, who never followed up on them.

"Doctor" Jack Moriarty |
Moriarty, who was given some business by Democrat campaigns in
Hudson County in 2003 and last year, but his firm's name was
linked recently to a series of ads which appeared with the
IBEW label on the NJPolitics•Com WebSite giving
the union's position on recent strike activities.
Moriarty's return would not be welcomed by many local
Democratic leaders who resented his overbearing attitude, and
his high-priced but marginally useful publicity "services."
Corby Campaigning: "Let's Work Together"
Meanwhile, Pine Beach Mayor Russ Corby appears to be
campaigning for the chairmanship, and reports have surfaced
which have him calling party faithful and asking for support.
"If the party is truly looking for a return to Ocean County
leadership, then perhaps we can all move forward together,"
Corby told the Asbury Park Press.

Brush Says Short Notice "Unfair"
Potter has called a meeting in Toms River Saturday to select
his successor, a short notice that was criticized by Dover
Mayor Paul Brush as "unfair to the party."
Brush said he would like to see Dover Planning Board Chairman
Salvatore Mattia seek the Democratic chairmanship.
Potter Might Withdraw Resignation
If Rank-And-File Won't Elect Earp
Another report said Potter was telling officials that if the
party committee did not go along with Earp as the new
chairman, he might retract his resignation and keep the Chair
despite his claim he is just too busy being President of
Teamsters Local #469 to spend another day as Democrat chair.
Potter also claimed his tenure as chairman was a blazing
success, telling the newspapers he was responsible for a new
Democratic majority in Point Pleasant Beach, taking control of
the local government in Jackson Township, the Democrat
resurgence in Berkeley and Brush's mayoral victory in Dover.
Potters Success Claims Are A Joke
Potter had nothing at all to do with any of these "victories"
but most Democrats would likely give him credit for Lord
Cornwallis' victory at Yorktown if he would just go away.
"Get thee gone, pestilence, and take thy 'doctor' with thee."
