People
ask me why I’m running for office in Toms River. My reason is that I
believe I can do more with less, unlike the current council that
does less with more.
When the
current incumbents ran for office, the Democrat mayor and the 7-0
Republican Council all promised to “cut spending and hold the line
on taxes.”
They
promised to eliminate political payoffs and be accountable to the
taxpayers.
Mayor And Council Broke Every Promise
Made To Voters
In the
three years and four months they have held office, the Democrat
Mayor and the Republicans on the Council have systematically trashed
every promise they made.
Huge Spending And Tax Increases
They have
also sponsored huge spending increases with very little benefit to
the taxpayers who pay the bills, and given us a 47.2% tax increase
in three years, one of the largest major community tax hikes in New
Jersey.
Voters Given A Choice In Rare Primary Challenge
They have
also violated every Republican principle (transparency,
accountability, economical no-boss government, emphasis on basic
services, etc) so that no Republican who values the principles of
open and honest local government could possible support them if
there is a reasonable choice in the Republican primary election.
I Want To Keep The Promises I Make
That’s
why I’m running in the Republican Primary election in Toms River: I
want to make a real effort to keep the promises I make, and to honor
Republican principles instead of disgracing the party of Abraham
Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan.
Our taxes
went up; the town’s tax ratables increased significantly with the
new housing boom. Voters should ask themselves a couple of
questions. Why didn’t we get stable taxes with all of this
additional revenue? Did any township services improve during the
last three years? Do we really want greedy lawyers with power over
our tax dollars?
These
questions can be answered by the voters in the Republican Primary
Election.
