Hike Funded Huge Payoffs To Lawyers And Political Hacks Connected
With Gilmore-McGuckin Political Machine
When the new government organized in 2004, it was quickly turned
into a political pork barrel by Republican County Chairman George
Gilmore, Attorney-Councilman Greg McGuckin and Democrat Mayor Paul
Brush who handed lucrative no-bid contracts to dozens of greedy
lawyers (including $90,000 for Gilmore) and cushy township jobs for
political hacks.

TR’s Largest Spending Increase From McGuckin & Gilmore
This cost $Million$, and the result was the largest spending
increase in township history and a 48% three-year tax increase, one
of the largest in New Jersey.
The taxpayers paid for the tidal wave of political spending, but got
no benefit from it.

Because of their generosity with funds recycled from Toms River
taxpayers, Gilmore and McGuckin, both greedy pay-to-play lawyers,
got reciprocal no-bid contracts all over Ocean County, and Brush was
handed the largest pay hike in Toms River history, from $26,000 to
$75,000, an increase of 178%.
Recreation & Road Programs
Ignored As Swarms Of Political Hacks
Are Hired For Political Cover
The real problems of the community, like the lifeless recreation and
street reconstruction programs, were all but ignored by the
political machine, where greed is king.
County government has been more of the same; freeholders waste $20
million a year on 200 superfluous political jobs created to fuel the
greed of McGuckin and Gilmore, and County Counsel Jack Sahradnik,
who was paid two salaries ($71,000), health benefits costing
$21,500, and additional billings of more than $1,150,000 in 2006.
