Newly Elected
Stafford Township Mayor John McMenamin |
Big Winner McMenamin,
New Stafford Mayor, Will Implement Platform Consistent
With Rules Of Good Government And Traditional Republican
Values
John McMenamin is the new Mayor of
Stafford Township, having trounced Boss Gilmore’s
long-time stooge Mayor Carl Block in the local election
May 12th. Block is also Ocean County Clerk.
And, all but one of McMenamin’s
StaffordFIRST council slate won, giving the new mayor a
mandate to reverse the cascade of political payoffs and
huge tax increases that were the trademarks of the
Block-Gilmore disaster in Stafford.
Big Winner McMenamin is pledged to
implement a platform consistent with basic rules of good
government and traditional Republican values of
cost-effective and productive administration.
Following is McMenamin’s basic platform:
TAXES:
On Stafford's excessive taxes, the McMenamin slate will "eliminate all political payoffs and stop no-bid contracts for politically-connected contractors. This will result in big spending cuts to benefit Stafford taxpayers."
OVER-DEVELOPMENT:
"Stafford has grown too big, too fast. We are paying the price with excessive taxes, excessive traffic and excessive growth. No more automatic approvals for developers connected with the political machine. A lot more emphasis on open space. No more payoffs for political contributors."
SCHOOL TAX DEFFERALS FOR DEVELOPERS: "Mayor Block cut sweetheart deals with developers who contribute to Gilmore's political machine. Some of these deals exempt rich developers from paying school taxes. More than $700,000 in school taxes have been transferred from developers to Stafford homeowners. These deals will STOP when we are elected."
PAYROLL PADDING: "Whether it's Administrator Paul Shives' outrageous $263,000 salary, or the useless employees whose jobs are political payoffs from Mayor Block and Boss Gilmore, we will Oppose payroll padding in all its forms. Taxpayers will come FIRST when we are in charge in Stafford."
“We will begin to implement this platform the day we are
sworn into office,” said McMenamin in a statement he
made following the vote count, which saw him defeat
Block by 3538 votes to 2622.
The new mayor and council take office in Manahawkin July
1st.
